Youth and Family Partners
Child, Youth, Family & Caregiver Partnerships
A foundational principle for Kids Come First is “Nothing about us without us".
We are always seeking the participation of several patient and family representatives for a Family and Youth Partnership Working Group of the Kids Come First Health Team including participation on a number of working groups. Family and Youth partners ensure Kids Come First maintains a commitment of engagement and partnership throughout its work.
We welcome partners with various healthcare system experiences, and you will stand out if you have experience receiving care within one of our current priority populations:
- Children and youth with mental health and addictions
- Children and youth with medically complex needs
- Indigenous community
- Francophone community
What's In It For Me?
An opportunity to help transform care delivery systems for children and youth and be a part of the largest mobilization of child and youth health providers and families in the history of Eastern Ontario. As well as, an opportunity to shift from engagement to true partnership and co-design on a variety of innovative projects.
Youth and family partners established a Family and Youth Partner Compensation Framework for the Kids Come First Health Team. The compensation framework represents a key commitment to partnering with youth, parents, and caregivers. Reimbursement for time and expenses incurred participating on working groups or project groups will be available for partners. This includes an hourly stipend.
What's Involved:
- Attending and participating in monthly Child, Youth, Family, and Caregiver Partner working group meetings – 10 to 12 working group meetings over the year for approximately one hour per meeting
- Joining at least one additional project or working group based on your interests (e.g., mental health, addictions, and substance use health, complex care, francophone services, population and public health)
- Comfort with sharing and considering different points of view
- Open to sharing your perspectives with service providers – the working groups and committees consist of both family members and service providers
